The department of Chemistry and Physics of Solids and Surfaces is part of Institut Jean Lamour. It is composed of 150 people, including 63 researchers and 16 technical staff. About 50 PhD students and a dozen post-doc fellows are working within the department.
Research at the Chemistry and Physics of Solids and Surfaces Department is multidisciplinary and falls within the thematic priorities of Institut Jean Lamour. It is based on a strong background in physical and chemical sciences, and deals with the study of the basic phenomena while being driven by the applications and the technological challenges related to innovative materials, processes, energy and environment . It is developed through numerous academic collaborations and partnerships with industry.
The strength of the department lies in the diversity of its eight research groups and the complementary skills that they develop, which combine surface physics, bulk materials and thin film chemistry, process physics and engineering, functional properties of materials, recycling of materials, etc.
