The scanning electron microscope images showed the formation of craters with cones, holes, corona, and other exotic structures. The atomic force microscopy images allowed evaluating the depth and height of these complex structures together with the chemical information as determined by NanoSIMS imaging. The plasma impacts locally removed the mono-layer and the bilayer down to the bare silicon substrate. In order to convert the acquired NanoSIMS images into a true three-dimensional distribution of the analyzed species, the SIMS images are overlapped with the corresponding atomic force microscopy images of the same probed area. In agreement with density functional theory calculations, the collected data show an overall gradual variation in the transport properties from metallic to semiconducting behavior on going from x = 3.4 to 3.8. The results evidence subtle variations in the electronic properties with the Ag content, typified by both positive and negative phonon-drag effects together with thermopower and Hall coefficient of opposite signs. Analysis of the data suggests that these features may be due to peculiarities of the dispersion of the valence bands in the vicinity of the chemical potential. A drastic influence of the Ag content on the thermal transport was evidenced by a pronounced change in the temperature dependence of the specific heat below 10 K. Nonlinearities in the Cp(T3) data are correlated to the concentration of Ag atoms, with an increase in x resulting in a more pronounced departure from a Debye law. Force field parameters are taken from a previous work. These simulations allow for atomic scale insights into the deposition mechanisms and an easier comparison with experimental observations. The results, including distributions of implantation depth, carbon concentrations, sticking coefficients, radial distribution function, and angular distributions are compared for different incidence angles. Due to the deposition of carbon atoms inside the silicon structure, silicon carbide starts to form. The crystalline structure has been investigated for different conditions to get a better understanding of the damaging and growth mechanisms. It is found that a lot of deformation is accumulated in the area of deposition near to the surface but underneath the surface the silicon has still a more crystalline structure. The variation of the silicon (carbide) structu re slightly depends on the angle of incidence. A steel ladle is a complex three-phase reactor, where strongly dispersed inclusions are transported by the turbulent liquid metal/bubbles flow. We have coupled a population balance model with CFD in order to simulate the mechanisms of transport, aggregation, flotation, and surface entrapment of inclusions. The simulation results, when applied to an industrial gas-stirring ladle operation, show the efficiency of this modeling approach and allow us to compare the respective roles of these mechanisms on the inclusion removal rate. The comparison with literature reporting data emphasizes the good prediction of deoxidating rate of the ladle. The classical analyzer is replaced by a fixed Rochon birefringent beamsplitter which splits the incidence light wave into two perpendicularly polarized waves, one oriented at + 45\(^{\circ}\) and the other one at ? 45\(^{\circ}\) according to the plane of incidence. Both emergent optical signals are analyzed by two identical CCD detectors which are synchronized by an optical encoder fixed on the shaft of the step-by-step motor of the compensator. The final spectrum is the result of the two averaged ? and ? spectra acquired by both detectors. We show that ? and ? spectra are acquired without systematic errors on a spectral range fixed from 400 to 800 nm. The acquisition time can be adjusted down to 25 ms. A special attention was paid to the distribution of the surface temperature of the sample which evolves between 530 K and 820 K. Whatever the treatment time, the temperature and the gas composition set within the studied ranges, a general nanostructure, made of lamellae separated by 20-50 nm, is found. When the temperature rises, localized nano-sea urchins, nanotubes with square sections, nano-needles, and more complex structures are found spread over the surface. Treated surfaces were characterized by different surface diagnostics (SEM, XRD, SIMS, etc.) Finally, a growth mechanism is proposed emphasizing the role of emerging defects and stress on the appearance of localized nanostructures. The present study reports on experimental results on the ageing of a usual PEO electrolyte and its effect on the oxidation of the Al2214 aluminium alloy. A solution of potassium hydroxide ([KOH] = 1 g/L) and sodium silicate ([Na2SiO3] = 1.65 g/L) diluted in deionized water was either aged by running a process during 8 h at most or not. Comparison between materials treated in either solution was made next. Cross-checked experimental results from analytical chemistry, plasma diagnostics and materials science clearly evidence the effect of ageing of the electrolyte on the PEO process behaviour. The transition from arc to ''soft'' regime occurs earlier (from 18 min to 13 min processing time) as the electrolyte gets older. The concomitant decrease in the electrolyte electrical conductivity (from 7.5 mS.cm-1 to 6.8 mS.cm-1) is correlated with changes in the ionic species content in the electrolyte. Fast video-imaging (125 kfr./s) reveals that the micro-discharge characteristics are also sensitive since they become less numerous per area and unit time (from 220.103 cm-2s-1 to 120.103 cm-2s-1), exhibit shorter lifetime and have smaller sizes as the electrolyte ages. SEM observations of the as-grown coatings combined with roughness measures indicate a decrease in coating thickness ( \verb=~= 20 \%) and roughness ( \verb=~= 30 \%) while species from the electrolyte accumulate in the outer porous layer simultaneously with a gradual enrichment in a-Al2O3 phase in the inner compact layer (from 36 \% to 43 \%). Finally, within the PEO conditions that were used, it is shown that the ageing phenomenon of the PEO electrolyte starts to influence the process after 2 hours aged.}, note = {D{\'e}partement CP2S : Exp{\'e}riences et Simulations des Plasmas R{\'e}actifs - Interaction plasma-surface et Traitement des Surfaces ESPRITS}, DOI = {10.1016/j.surfcoat.2014.11.001}, author = {Martin, J. and Leone, P. and Nomin{\'e}, A. and Veys-Renaux, D. and Henrion, G. and Belmonte, T.} } @Article { CP2S018, title = {Influence of tartaric acid on diffusion coefficients of BiIII, SbIII, TeIV in aqueous medium: Application of electrodeposition of thermoelectric films}, journal = {Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry}, year = {2014}, volume = {724}, pages = {111-117}, note = {D{\'e}partement CP2S : Chimie et {\'e}lectrochimie des mat{\'e}riaux}, keywords = {Coefficient Diffusion Electrodeposition Films Sand Thermoelectric}, author = {Schoenleber, J. and Stein, N. and Boulanger, C.} } @Article { ISI:000336207900017, title = {Interaction of discharges with electrode surfaces in dielectric liquids: application to nanoparticle synthesis}, journal = {JOURNAL OF PHYSICS D-APPLIED PHYSICS}, year = {2014}, volume = {47}, number = {22, SI}, abstract = {Discharge-surface interaction in liquids includes many phenomena which are reviewed in this work.
