Body

Physics of Matter and Materials
[P2M]

Areas of research:

  • Spintronics and nanomagnetism
  • Surfaces and spectroscopies
  • Intermetallic compounds and hybrid materials
  • Nanomaterials for optoelectronics
  • Physics of hot plasmas

Objectives:

  • Developing fundamental knowledge (physics, matter, materials)
  • Addressing energy production and conversion issues (fusion, photovoltaic, magnetocaloric, optoelectronics, etc.)
  • Study micro and nano-electronics

Main skills:

  • Nanosciences, nanomaterials, innovative materials
  • Nanoelectronics, spintronics, manipulation of magnetization
  • Study of electronic, optical, magnetic, transport properties
  • Physics of hot plasmas and plasma diagnostic

P2M departement hosts an industrial chair named PLUS (Ultrafsat laser pulse to store information). It aims at developing an energy-saving technology for storing information on magnetic memories with increased write-speed.

Chemistry and Physics of Solids and Surfaces [CP2S]

Areas of research:

  • Predictionand synthesis of advanced materials
  • Design and management of materials properties
  • Engineering and modelling of elaboration processes

 

Objectives:

  • Bringing to solids and surfaces new functional properties
  • Recycling
  • identifying alternatives to critical raw materials

 

Main skills:

  • Elaboration of materials in bulk and low dimensional (0D, 1D, 2D) forms
  • Characterization of functional properties
  • Structural characterization
  • Calculations (Thermodynamics, DFT, finite elements, etc.)

Materials Science and Engineering - Metallurgy Department [SI2M]

Areas of research:

  • Metallurgical process engineering, solidification
  • Microstructures and stresses
  • Mechanics and plasticity

Objectives:

  • Optimization of processing and treatment of materials (metals, polymers, composites) to obtain required mechanical properties properties
  • Ecodesign, recycling

Main skills:

  • High temperature metallurgical process and environment
  • Liquid metal treatment, remelting process
  • Solidification
  • Heat treatment and thermochemical treatments
  • Relationship microstructures/mechanical properties (metals for high temperatures, polymers and composites, biomaterials)
  • Welding, additive manufacturing
  • Deformation micromechanisms (dislocation, instabilities, macromolecular mobility, damage, interfaces)
  • Mechanical properties
  • Multiscale, multiphysic modeling and simulation of process and materials
  • Experimental platforms (liquid metal processing, solidification, etc.), in situ experiments on large scientific instrument

SI2M department is the cofounder with LEM3 laboratory of Labex DAMAS (Design of Alloy Metals for low-mAss Structures). It currently hosts 2 industrial chairs : Liquid Metal and Solidification.

[N2EV]

  • Nano- and bio-materials for health
  • Bio-sourced materials and their applications
  • Living materials
  • Micro-nano-systems
  • Metamaterials and phononics

  • Energy efficiency
  • Industrial renewal
  • Preservation of resources and environment
  • Health and well-being
  • Development of new artificial materials for acoustics and mechanical vibrations

  • 4D bio-printing,tissue engineering, transcriptomics
  • Characterization of electromagnetic properties
  • Spectroscopy (Brillouin, near field, impedance)
  • Synthesis and characterization of porous solids
  • Acoustical, elastic and mechanical measurements and characterizations
