The Institut Jean Lamour has about 170 doctoral students. An average of 30 theses are defended each year. Among them: 5 co-supervised theses and 4 CIFRE theses (Industrial Convention for Training through Research).

The doctoral students of the IJL are registered in one of these 2 doctoral schools :
- Chemistry - Mecanics - Materials- Physics (C2MP)
- Computer Science, Automation, Electronics-Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Architectural Sciences (IAEM)
IJL's Cénacle
The IJL's Cénacle is an association that gathers all the doctoral students of the IJL and has a budget to organize the activities of its choice (conviviality, visits, seminars, etc.).
