Congratulations to Halima Alem-Marchand (IJL) and Lina Bolotine (CRAN/Institute of Cancer of Lorraine) for winning the Decroix-Vernier EthicScience Prize

Sous titre
On Friday, March 28, 2025, Halima Alem-Marchand, professor at the Institut Jean Lamour, and Lina Bolotine, Associate Professor and Hospital Practitioner at CRAN and the Institute of Cancer of Lorraine, received the Decroix-Vernier EthicScience Prize at the Palais du Luxembourg in the "Development and Applicability Award" category for their work on “PDAC on a chip”, understanding drug efficacy constraints through pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) modeling.

The Decroix-Vernier EthicScience Prize is awarded every two years to scientific programs that promote research free from animal experimentation, based on the most advanced and high-performance scientific and technological knowledge. Halima Alem-Marchand and Lina Bolotine received the award in the "Development and Applicability Award" category. This prize aims to highlight the integration of existing data and tools that can be applied to regulatory assessment in toxicology or human health (e.g., in silico methods to integrate available toxicological tests and epidemiology).

The project led by the two researchers from Nancy aims to design a dynamic model integrating 3D printing and microfluidic technologies to faithfully reproduce the tumor microenvironment associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Based on an innovative patented technology, this approach allows for the exploration of drug treatment effects on cancer cells and their environment while considering the complex interactions between proteins and nanoparticles that may influence therapeutic efficacy.

Led by Professor Halima Alem-Marchand and Dr. Lina Bolotine, the project combines expertise in nanomedicine and oncology to develop a “cancer-on-a-chip” platform. This platform serves as a promising predictive and ethical tool for optimizing therapeutic strategies against cancer and has captured the full attention of the jury.
